Celtic 0 v 2 St.Mirrenoff

Saints went into this game as the underdogs as they fielded an understrentgh and all new team. Several first team players were missing and a few new faces started in this game, all doing the club proudly.

From the start, Saints looked the hungrier team with good link up play between debutant Davie Christie, playing in a right wing position, and the two forwards. Saints had several chances in the early stages before allowing Celtic back into the match. It was the Mirrenoff who opened the scoring with ten minutes to go in the first half. A great through ball to Nicky Harkins was the ingredient for the silky saint to run through on goal and produce a fantastic finish over the oncoming keeper.

Half time 1-0 Saints

Celtic came back at St.Mirrenoff throughout the second half but an inspired performance from Liam Harkins in goals meant the hoops were always going to find it difficult to get something back. With Harkins in unbeatable form in goal and the defense being superbly marshalled by Smuggy and Ian Brown, it was the Saints that grabbed a tremendous second that sealed the victory. A fine bit of individual skill from Davie Christie down the right saw the winger beat three men before passing to Mark Gallacher who clinicly finished from six yards.

Full credit to the Buddies on a great performance.

Star Saint: Liam Harkins.
